Renting An Apartment Or Renting A House?
Distinct advantages and disadvantages exist in both options and the final decision would depend on the exact requirements and preferences of the renter concerned. A House is more personal and customized and affords much privacy and personal freedom, whereas an apartment is more standardized and is suitable for renters who like to live in the midst of neighbors for different reasons.
In this article, we would examine the different situations, their advantages and disadvantages in more detail hoping that the information elicited would be helpful to prospective renters in deciding between going for a rental house or going for a rental apartment.
The Pros and Cons of Renting Houses
Rental homes are easily found in different sizes and different options with regard to the number and sizes of bedrooms and other facilities etc., and hence at varying monthly rentals based on their floor areas and other facilities available.
Rental houses are a lot more customized than apartments and sometimes options exist, though not as a general case, for you to get them more personalized to your specific requirements. Another advantage is that a rental house affords you the opportunity to stay in comfort and privacy at reasonable price, which is an ideal option for those who do not have the financial resources to purchase a new house for cash for some time.
The location is an important factor that plays a significant role in making a choice between a house and an apartment. A house for rent which is a single unit by itself may be found almost anywhere in residential areas and to a far lesser extent in commercial areas, whereas apartments which are put up generally in groups or numbers are constructed on lands blocked out and further developed with infrastructure etc. for such purposes, and are to be found more in towns and urban areas and commercial zones.
Apartments are rather rare in residential areas. Further, you could rent a house having a lawn in front and a backyard as well for your children and pets to play about and grow some vegetables etc., whereas apartments would have very small garden spaces of its own apart from common amenities. If not for high price differences, many renters favor a house where they feel more secluded and unique and are able to personalize it to their tastes very much more than is allowed in the case of apartments.
A significant disadvantage with a rental house is that there is very little security beyond the period specified in the present contract as to how long you would be able to stay in that house. The reason being that many house owners rent their excess houses for limited periods only, until such time as they transfer them in the names of their children once they come of age.
With houses, when the landlords decide not to rent them anymore, the renters may have to go house hunting at frequent intervals. This type of situation is not likely to arise with apartments that are built for the purpose of renting to outsiders and it could be possible for you to go on renewing the contracts almost indefinitely each time it comes up for renewal, as long as you have maintained a good record and rapport with the landlord.
The Pros and Cons of Renting Apartments
Amenities are the biggest advantage attached to renting apartments especially from a public apartment complex. Gyms or exercise rooms, swimming pools, saunas, spas, hot baths, play grounds and parks, community halls and conference rooms, are some of the amenities available although they may not be found in private apartments to such an extent, and would be totally absent when renting a house.
For those who cannot afford to pay high rentals, the ideal solution is renting an apartment since their rentals are significantly lower per square foot; and they are also available in very compact sizes, whereas you may not be able to find such tiny houses and at such affordable rates.
A big problem with apartments is the lack of privacy, with so many apartments from many sides with some apartments being only separated by a common wall. So the sounds carry easily to your adjoining apartment neighbors even when doors and windows are properly shut. If you opt for an apartment then you to compromise on privacy and your immediate neighbors getting to know most of what is happening within your four walls.
Another aspect of the same problem is what you are compelled to hear that you don’t want to hear like some neighbors blaring loud music at all times of the day and night and when they entertain till late at night with liquor flowing freely and some of their visitors becoming too noisy and boisterous for your liking.
